The IT industry has certainly changed a lot in the last few years. Before the Covid 19 pandemic, organizations were mainly on-premises, had on-premises datacenter footprints, and used a lot of virtual machines (remember going into the office five days a week?). Those days seem to be a distant memory at this point. Since the Covid 19 pandemic, remote work has taken over, the Cloud exploded in popularity, and a new reality has set it. It has truly made my head spin. I think part of the reason why I missed a lot of this is that I was off having two great children during these years and spent most of my time focusing on them. Now that they are a little older, I’ve begun taking a new look at the industry and my place in it. I’ve decided to focus on learning the Cloud (is “Clouds” a more accurate term?) and dive more into coding. I think there is a fundamental shift occurring in IT and those of us IT veterans really need to embrace the un-learning of our old ways and re-learning IT in this new landscape. I’m not sure if I will be successful, it sure does seem daunting, but I’m up for the challenge.
